Day 2 - Sensouji Temple and Tokyo Sky Tower

After a beautiful sunny day yesterday, this morning we woke to the sound of rain. It wasn't too heavy, but certainly much colder and more cloudy than would have been nice.

As a group of 38, we caught the train to Kaminarimon Gate and the Sensouji Temple. There were so many people there that we had to just go our own way for the 2 hours we were there as there was no way to stick together as a group.

The kids were each given a sheet with questions to answer and we went our own way to wander and find the answers.

The temple and pagoda were beautiful, with lovely gardens in the surrounds.

En route, we needed some energy, so tried crispy pumpkin and sesame fritters and crab and cheesy beef croquettes. They were delicious!

After 2 hours we met up with the others to go through answers and were then free for the afternoon.

A group of us went to the nearby Tokyo Sky Tree. Unfortunately it wasn't a beautiful clear day, but the view was still amazing. We bought the tickets to the highest point at floor 450, which was fantastic. I knew that Tokyo was big, but seeing it from this height was an eye opener. It just kept going and going!

Christmas decorations and carols were already in full swing!

After the tower, we caught the train to Akihabara, a suburb with a lot of anime and manga shops. We walked up and down the main street,  but not really being our thing, it wasn't particularly  interesting.
Our hotel is only about 1km away, so it was an easy walk home.

After a rest in our room, and a very hot and quick Japanese bath upstairs, we were ready for dinner. At a local restaurant  with lots of pointing and charades, Ella had the biggest bowl of ramen ever!

With full bellies, we're back in our room watching sumo on the tv and getting ready for bed. After walking 17.5km today, I think a good night's sleep is well deserved!
